E-mail has allowed us all to keep in touch with just a few clicks of a button.
Sadly, too many people only touch others by clicking "Forward". No one likes junk mail,
but it's even more disheartening when the 'junk' comes from a friend or family member.
So.... before you go sending that e-mail with that amazing story off to everyone in your list (like
it probably tells you to), play it smart and check it out! After all, no one wants to spread a false rumor-
or worse yet, get called on it for doing so!!
There are several good sites to find out if what you got from your concerned
Aunt Matilda is really something to worry about. Not only that, if you check it out and
let others know, you will look very cyber-savvy to them!
Try using the little search box at About.com:
About.com's Urban Legend site
for a huge listing, check out
Hoaxbusters (http://hoaxbusters.ciac.org/HoaxBustersHome.html)
Another one that is a lot of fun to visit is the
Urban Legends Reference Pages at Snopes.com
While we're at it, don't forget this site:
BreakTheChain.org
Save these addresses in
your Favorites (or Bookmark them, or whatever you wish to call it), and you can
check out these stories anytime. Usually this can be done quickly by
pressing the "CTRL" and "D" keys at the same time.
